When You Know You Belong
Lets rediscover the excitement of exploring New York City like atourist, sharing stylish outfits andelegant destinations.
When You Know You Belong
Dear Esteemed Reader,
Over the years, I’ve usually boarded a plane in search of beauty, inspiration, and that intoxicating feeling of discovery that only a stamped passport seems to promise. But as 2026 quietly arrived, something shifted. Instead of packing a suitcase for a distant escape, I chose to explore the magic waiting right outside my own front door. And just like that, I became a tourist in my own city — NYC.
And you know what? It was just as exhilarating as any international getaway. But here’s the twist… I didn’t just explore my city, I dressed for it. Because whether you’re wandering through Central Park or enjoying a fine dining experience, style still matters.
In this edition, I’ll share not only where to go, but what to wear and how to curate outfits that feel comfortable, polished, and perfectly suited for rediscovering NYC.
After all, we may be tourists in our own city — but tourists nonetheless, which means plenty of photos… and outfits absolutely matter. As we know memories fade, but great style is forever captured in a photograph.
Let's do this...

Pre-Dinner Cocktails:
A Golden Find
There’s something thrilling about discovering a new cocktail spot as it feels like uncovering a hidden gem that NYC quietly keeps for those in the know. That’s exactly how I felt when I stumbled upon The Gold Room, tucked inside The New York Palace in Midtown.
From the moment you step inside, you’re transported. The space gleams with opulence, less lounge, more gilded vault. Think rich gold tones, retro cocktail glamour, and an ultra-lux ambiance that feels both intimate and indulgent. It’s the kind of place where time slows, martinis sparkle, and conversations linger.
A little insider tip… arrive when they open or secure a reservation because it fills up quickly.
As for fashion? A setting this dramatic calls for a statement coat to make a grand entrance. Not only did my Leopard Print Coat keep me warm on a crisp New York evening, it turned more than a few heads. And here’s the best part: it's from our 2019 collection. Yes, we design timeless fashion.
A great statement coat should always do two things: keep you warm and stand the test of time. Style that lasts? Now that’s the luxury we can afford, no?
Four Twenty Five:
An Evening of Elevated Indulgence
Just when you think you’ve experienced the best of fine dining, New York gently reminds you there’s always another level. Enter Four Twenty Five — the Michelin-starred jewel perched inside 425 Park Avenue, led by celebrated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
From the very first bite, it was clear we were in for something extraordinary. The caviar course quite literally dissolved on the tongue, delicate, briny perfection. The duck? Savory, layered, and executed with surgical precision. And then came dessert… or rather, desserts. Somehow, we ended up with four. One even arrived with “Happy Birthday” scripted across the plate, a subtle reminder that perhaps birthday celebrations are destined to stretch well beyond a single day. No regrets.
And Now, Let’s Talk Fashion. An elegant setting calls for an equally considered wardrobe choice. I debated a few options, but ultimately chose a classic all-black dress which was timeless, refined, and perfectly suited to the room’s sophistication. But the true star? The belt.
A statement accessory has the power to transform even the simplest silhouette into something unforgettable — instantly elevating it to photo-worthy status. And I must mention the sleeve detail: fabric sculpted into a rose, subtle yet striking.
Proof that sometimes, elegance lies in a basic silhouette and impact lies in the details.
Curtain Up, Style On:
Time for Broadway
To truly be considered a tourist, one must make a Broadway stop. So of course, I did. But instead of the traditional evening performance, I opted for a Wednesday matinee — like a proper tourist.
The show? Chess, starring Lea Michele, who absolutely stole the show, in my opinion. I’ve always loved productions that blend powerful music with meaningful storytelling, and this one delivered on both. Don’t you just love when entertainment and education go hand in hand?
Set against the backdrop of 1970s Soviet and U.S. relations, the story highlighted how the game of chess became a powerful diplomatic language. It wasn’t just a performance — it was a reminder that chess is far more than a game; it’s strategy, foresight, and life lessons played out move by move.
Now, let’s talk fashion. One choice made the afternoon especially comfortable: my new fur capelet. As the lights dimmed, the air conditioning intensified (why is it always freezing in theaters?). While others fumbled with bulky coats — looking slightly like overstuffed puffer birds squeezed into their seats — I simply slipped my capelet out of my handbag and draped it effortlessly over my shoulders. Chic, compact, and practical.
Tip: Whenever visiting a New York restaurant or theater, always bring something to keep you warm…like our Blousettes or caplets. You never know which way the breeze will blow, but one thing is certain: you’ll stay warm, polished, and perfectly put together.
Late-Night, Done Right:
Le Bar Penelope
Let’s be honest — loud clubs and velvet-rope chaos are no longer my idea of a perfect night. At this stage in life, I’m far more interested in somewhere atmospheric, refined, and just lively enough to feel electric without overwhelming the senses. The kind of place where you can slip in for a nightcap after an exquisite dinner and let the evening linger. Enter Le Bar Penelope.
A relatively new addition to New York’s nightlife scene, Le Bar Penelope feels like a transportive escape — one step inside and you could swear you’ve landed in Havana for the night. The lighting is perfectly calibrated: dim enough to hide slightly smudged makeup, yet bright enough to appreciate the design details and the scene unfolding around you.
The interiors exude dramatic tropical glamour with a sultry undertone. Servers, dressed in subtly provocative uniforms, add to the mystique — hinting that the night is just getting started. On select evenings, live music elevates the ambiance even further, bringing a rhythm and romance that feels both nostalgic and fresh. And here’s the insider note: the energy truly builds after 10 p.m….consider it my public service notice.
Whether you’re out with a small circle of friends or on a fun, well-planned date, Le Bar Penelope is the perfect final stop to end the night on a high note.
What to wear? Effortless allure. You want to look like you didn’t try too hard… even though you absolutely did. Ladies, you know the look. As for me, I chose a red dress :)
Until Next Time...
This little experiment — becoming a tourist in my own city — reminded me of something powerful: you don’t need a passport to feel inspired. Sometimes, all it takes is intention and a partner in crime. As you seek new and exciting locations, make fashion your constant companion. Because here’s what I rediscovered, when you dress with intention, even the familiar becomes extraordinary.
So perhaps the next time you feel the urge to book a faraway escape, pause. Look around. Your city may be waiting to surprise you. And when you step out to explore it, do so boldly, comfortably, and impeccably dressed.
Remember to Live beautifully. Dress intentionally. Belong boldly. With that I will sign off and will see you in about 30 days … same place, same time….in your Inbox.
With Love,
Aysha
